I hope this email finds you well as we begin February, the Year of the Tiger, and Black History Month. I have a few brief items to which I’d like to draw your attention.

First, the Red Hook Recreation Center has reopened. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 6 am until 8 pm, and Saturdays from 8 am until 4 pm.

Secondly, the new district lines for the New York State Assembly and Senate have been released. Like with congressional lines, they are expected to be approved this week, and many of us may end up in a new district or with new representation in the state legislature. If you’d like to see what district you’ll be living in or what changes are proposed,  go to redistrictingandyou.org and find all the legislative lines.

Third, as you may already know, over 500 units at the Gowanus houses were without heat and hot water last night.  Around midnight, the heat and hot water were restored, and thankfully, during the disruption, Council Member Lincoln Restler, as well as Gowanus Mutual Aid, secured 500 gallons of water. Mayor Adams was also on sight to ensure the work was completed. I mention this not just to share information but to reiterate how important, as I discussed with Lincoln this morning, the 200 million dollars dedicated to NYCHA repairs in the Gowanus Rezoning POA is, and it can’t get here soon enough. That funding for NYCHA was a major, if not the “the” major, condition of supporting the rezoning for not just us as CB6 but others such as GNCJ and, at the time, Borough President, and now Mayor, Adams. Last night was a reminder of why and the immediate attention from the  Mayor and Council Member is, hopefully, a good indicator that the necessary and long-term improvements will be made.
