First, in response to recent efforts to ban books across the country, the Brooklyn Public Library launched its Books UnBanned campaign. What this means is that any 13 to 21-year-old nationwide can apply for a free one-year BPL e-card, which provides access to 350,000 e-books, 200,000 audiobooks, and over 100 databases. If you, or anyone you know, like to spread the word and/or know anyone who would benefit from such access, click here or go to bklynlibrary.org/books-unbanned.

Secondly, the city's Summer Rising program application is now available. The program is open to all elementary and middle school students. Parents can apply for their children by clicking here or going to schools.nyc.gov/enrollment/summer.

Third, Covid infections have climbed closer to a “medium” risk rate category from our current “low” risk rate. Even with the innumerable and undocumented at-home testing for the first time since February, we’re seeing over three thousand positive cases a day. However, within this data, a clear narrative is that it’s much safer if you’re vaccinated, boosted, and if eligible, double boosted.
