I hope this email finds you well as we head into what’s expected to be a warm weekend. I have four items to highlight.

First, the court-appointed special master hasn’t released his final and binding maps for New York’s State Senate and Congressional districts. Those maps are still expected to be released today, but closer to 7 or 8 pm. You may have heard about a CB6 resident already running despite this lack of finality.

Second, speaking of legislators, a deal, in line with the community board stance, was reached to keep the city’s speed camera program in place for another three years. Along with the extension of years, the cameras will now run 24 hours a day instead of the current schedule, where they are shut off from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Third, if you have some time to read, I suggest checking out HPD’s housing and vacancy study that shows the number of apartments available for low- and- middle-income households has reached a 30-year low. At the same time, Airbnb has more listings than apartments available for rent.

Fourth, I’ll remind you that the Health Department’s Covid-19 alert system is now at high risk (Orange). So, if you haven’t already, get vaccinated and boosted by going to vax4nyc.nyc.gov.

If you read past my contact information, you’ll find a lot is happening across our community this weekend and the weekend ahead. That includes tonight’s District 15 Superintendent Town Hall,  Saturday’s Brooklyn Conservatory of Music’s Open Stages, and Thursday’s Landmarks/Land Use Committee meeting. However, whether you check out any of these happenings or not, stay safe and have a great weekend.
