First, this morning I, along with CB6 Chair Eric McClure, and Transportation chair Doug Gordon participated in a walk-through on 9th Street in the wake of the crash that killed Carroll Gardens resident Sarah Schick on January 10th. We joined DOT Commissioner Rodriguez and his team members, CM Hanif and Sen. Gounardes and AM Simon, and a rep from Congressman Goldman’s office to begin the process of making significant safety improvements along the corridor. We expect that DOT will come to our Transportation Committee soon with proposed design changes and will share meeting details as soon as they’re available.
Secondly, on a sandwich-related note, the City Council approved the Defonte’s Street co-naming. For those unfamiliar, Defonte’s is a sandwich shop of renown in Red Hook, at the corner of Columbia and Luquer, that has been in business for over a century. I’ve been in touch with Council Member Avelis’s office on this, and when I know more, you’ll know more. In the meantime, I’d recommend trying their potatoes and egg sandwich.
I’ll make no further dining recommendations but strongly suggest you read the rest of this email. No matter what you decide to do, have a great weekend, and for all who will celebrate it, Happy Lunar New Year!
