Our CB6 Transportation/Public Safety Committee met at Principles Cafe on Wednesday to review DOT's plans to extend the protected bike lane on 9th Street down to Smith Street. The committee approved the plans with conditions that DOT add Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPIs) on 2nd Ave crossing 9th Street, extend those LPIs beyond the current 7 seconds, LPI signage, markers for driveways where the protected bike lane would stop, and additional traffic calming measures. Public Safety Chair Jerry Armer emphasized the need for quick implementation, demanding the plan be implemented this summer. The full board will vote on this motion at our June 14th meeting.

Of course, plenty is happening before our June meeting. In the coming week, we have two CB6 committee meetings: Liquor Licenses on Monday and Landmarks on Thursday. Additionally, our district and borough have a half marathon running through it tomorrow and the 5th Avenue fair on Sunday.
