I'll focus on three things today. The first of those three is Council Member Aviles's legislation, formerly Intro 1050, which would reduce cruise ship pollution and traffic in Red Hook by requiring shore power for ships and traffic mitigation plans. We support this and want it to become law. If you want to help make that happen, you should visit City Hall this Tuesday, February 13th, at 9 AM for a press conference in support and stick around for a hearing on the legislation at 10 AM. If you can't make it, you can submit testimony electronically. 

Second, the New York City vacancy rate has hit a record low of 1.4%. This isn't a record to be proud of. It's a record that's made it difficult and, in many cases, impossible for people to live here despiting wanting to. This results from decades of bad policy choices, including choices that restricted the housing supply at rates that didn't keep up with the demand. Hopefully, that can change going forward, and today gave me some hope for the supply portion of policy as I attended Governor Hochul's housing agenda event in Gowanus. The Governor's goals align with our support for the Gowanus Rezoning, and today's event, including a groundbreaking, makes one of the rezoning's main goals, adding to the supply of affordable and market-rate housing, closer to reality. It was good to be there with Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer, Comptroller Lander, Assemblymember Simon, Arts Gowanus, and others. 

Third, I'd like to remind you that our next Full Board Meeting is on Wednesday, February 21st, at 6:30 PM at Van Alen & Zoom. That's a change from our usual second Wednesday of the month, but rest assured, we'll return to our regularly scheduled meeting day next month.
