I hope February's first 40 hours have been fun and you've enjoyed Groundhog Day. In a literal and figurative sense, this year's Groundhog Day has some dark clouds as it's the 10th anniversary of a tall CB6 resident dropping Staten Island Chuck to his eventual death. 

As a city, we've carried on, and today's festivities occurred and concluded with Chuck safe and sound, not seeing his shadow and predicting an early spring. Despite this lack of a shadow, Chuck is only advisory, and spring starts on March 19th. While we wait for spring, there's a lot of activity across our community.

In CB6's immediate orbit, our Permits & Licenses committee met on Monday and recommended the approval of liquor license applications at 305 Douglass Street, 215 Smith Street, and 293 Van Brunt Street. Those applications now join last week's Landmark and Land Use items for a vote from our Full Board on Wednesday, February 21st. 

There's much more happening; if you read the rest of this email, you'll see it. Before doing that, I'd like once again to highlight Council Member Aviles's legislation, Intro 1050. We're supportive of this legislation because its functions are things we've long called for, such as requiring shore power for ships at Red Hooks cruise terminal and requiring traffic mitigation plans to reduce the traffic, noise, and pollution caused by increased activity of ships arriving at such cruise terminals. If this interests you, please note that on February 13th, at City Hall, there will be a hearing on this bill, and you can testify. You can also sign a petition or attend a Zoom meeting that folks organizing in support of this bill are hosting on Sunday.
