The second tool in the Use of Land Hub is the one people ask me about most: bkcb6.app/rents. It maps median asking rents for every community board in the city, by unit size, month by month since January 2010, and lets you drag a slider through sixteen years of it.

For CB6 the current picture is stark. A one-bedroom in Red Hook now lists around $4,395, Carroll Gardens $4,300, Gowanus $4,183, Park Slope $3,900, and Cobble Hill and the Columbia Street Waterfront around $3,200. Citywide, Brooklyn CB1 (Greenpoint and Williamsburg) sits at the top near $4,895 and CB16 (Brownsville) at the bottom near $1,500. CB6 has been in the highest band for most of the last decade.

The point of the tool isn’t to make anyone feel worse. It’s to put the same numbers in front of everyone before a hearing, a rezoning, or a budget vote, so the conversation starts from what rents actually are rather than what someone remembers paying.
