Stadium Style Zoning

Nothing here is calculated. Every button opens the citywide address search, which reads zoning and land use from PLUTO and districts from Geoclient. The card is always the current answer; the zoning shown on a button is what that card reported and can change.

Why Citi Field has no community board. New York is divided into 59 community districts, but large parks and airports are not carved up among them. The City designates those joint interest areas, and neighbouring boards share an interest rather than one board owning the site.

Citi Field is the clearest example. The ballpark and the whole USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center sit in Queens Joint Interest Area 81, Flushing Meadows Corona Park. It is not in Queens Community Board 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 or 9 — it is bordered by all six of them.

Why that matters. When Mets ownership proposed the Metropolitan Park casino complex on the Citi Field parking lot, the land was legally mapped parkland even though it is asphalt. That is why it needed zoning text and city map amendments rather than an ordinary rezoning, and why several adjacent Queens boards each took up the proposal.

All twelve joint interest areas. Each identified by testing a known landmark inside it against the City's own boundary file, not from a lookup table.
