January 31 st isn’t always this frigid but it is always the birthday of the late great Jackie Robinson who would’ve been 100 today.
January 31 st isn’t always this frigid but it is always the birthday of the late great Jackie Robinson who would’ve been 100 today.
As people, and specifically Brooklynites, he is someone who represented the best of humanity. Even though he is renowned for stealing home. Noted CB6 native Pete Hamill summed up, in a romanticized way I’m sure, what the Dodgers and Robinson meant to Brooklyn . In the midst of this weather it may be corny but it gives me hope and I’d say worth a read.
But you know what’s not corny?
Potentially useful updates.
1 - Seventeen Candidates to choose from on the February 26th Special Election ballot for Public Advocate . However, if you, or anyone you know isn’t registered to vote, and would like to do so by mail make sure you do it by the end of business tomorrow, Friday February 1st.
2 - An intriguing take on the famous bookstore, landmarks, small business and Amazon. After yesterday’s city council hearing this is especially interesting.
3- On February 13th Assembly Member Robert Carroll will be hosting an education forum.
4- If you, or someone you know, is interested in helping the DSNY clean our streets(Pay ranges from 15 to 22 dollars an hour) as snow may start to become a regular occurrence you can sign up at a local DSNY garage.
5- If you missed last week's DEP presentation regarding the CSO tanks click here to see it.
Obviously is going to be a part of our focus going forward and don't forget DCP's open house is Wednesday February 6th.
6- Alternate side parking and parking meter rules will be in effect tomorrow, February 1 st . If that changes, as it sometimes does, I will let you know ASAP.
-Subway service changes for tomorrow, February 1 st .
- Bus service changes for tomorrow, February 1 st .
As always, feel free to share this information anyway you see fit!
