The Governor has announced that the decidedly unrefreshing “Pause” has been extended until, at least, MAY 15th . While we must remain distanced, we need not be incommunicado, so please save the date of May 6th for our second community check-in with more details to follow. Our Mayor released his Executive Budget Proposal , which, he believes, rests on four pillars -keeping city residents safe, healthy, housed, and fed. Beyond that, given the COVID-19 downpour, there will no longer be a rainy day fund, and there will be significant cuts above that.

During today’s press conference , the Mayor was asked, by Kevin Duggan of the Brooklyn Paper, about the letter we sent yesterday regarding COVID-19 making testing sites being available to people without access to a car ASAP. The Mayor didn’t directly respond to the question but did mention that some walk-up sites are opening. We continue to raise concerns and advise as best we can, and hopefully, policies are adjusted accordingly. So, thank you to Kevin for asking the question and a CB6 board member, who doesn’t miss anything, for letting me know that the question had been asked.

In what can be called “ good news ” in the most limited sense of the term, 606 New York residents died yesterday, which is the lowest total of the last 10 days. Fewer people are being hospitalized, fewer people are in ICU’s, and fewer people are being intubated. But that these numbers are coming down only reinforce s why the pause must continue.
