First, our former and longtime Landmarks Committee Chair, Bob Levine, has lost his wife, Kathy Sonderman, after her 34-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Bob and Kathy were together for more than 45 years, and, in addition to Bob, she is survived by their two children, Brian and Emily. 

Kathy did a lot of great things in her life, being a mother, teaching autistic children, and volunteering at local hospitals. In communication with Bob, it’s clear one of her greatest accomplishments is in helping those who suffer from Parkinson’s. Indeed she donated her brain to Columbia University’s Neurological Institute in the hope it will lead to greater understanding and, thus, better treatments. I hope that Kathy’s memory can be a blessing for all that knew her and that her example can remind us to do our best to make a difference; anyway we can. Secondly, as I’m sure many of you saw, the Cobble Hill Health Center , where we have held many meetings over the years, has lost 55 Patients, in a 300-bed facility, to COVID-19. This is not only close to home but on a scale that’s hard to comprehend. I offer my deepest condolences to all those who have lost loved ones during this crisis and the utmost gratitude to everyone working on the front lines of this crisis. Given the Cobble Hill Health Center’s proximity to the former LICH site, it’s hard not to be

reminded of how predictably shortsighted the state was in its decision to sell

the hospital.
