I hope this email finds you well as we kick off May and head into the weekend with COVID-19 numbers continuing to move the right way . 

There are 2 important updates about things we've recently weighed in on. 

First, schools are now officially closed for the remainder of the academic year , while

a decision on summer school will be announced by the end of May. As noted

earlier in the week, whenever school does resume, necessary safety protocols

need to be in place . 

Another issue we have weighed in on is the city's open streets plan and the need for

community input. The first part of that plan has been announced , and the plan

currently indicates that beginning on Monday, May 4th, Prospect Park west from Garfield to 3rd street will be open to pedestrians. I'm sharing information as I get it, and as the process and particulars are made known, I'll share them. As Commissioner Trottenberg noted, this is the first step, and suggestions can be made here.  

I'm sure policies related to schools and street uses, among other topics, will be

discussed during our 2nd "Community Check-in" this Wednesday, May 6th, beginning at 6:30 PM. You can join the 100 or so people that have already registered, by clicking here. Considering today's date and the pain being felt by so many, it's probably worth discussing policies that call to mind the ghost Tom Joad.
