Never a Stars Wars fan I prefer, as I'm sure most of you do as well, to associate today with the 123rd anniversary of New York's legislature approving the consolidation of the 5 Boroughs that now make up New York City. It didn't go into effect until Jan 1st of the following year, which may explain some folks, including deceased relatives of mine, referring to it as the " mistake of 98" . Speaking of mistakes, or potential mistakes, even though COVID-19 numbers have moved in the right direction, we cannot stop keeping a safe and socially appropriate distance as we don't want to face another wave of infections.

Moving on, congratulations to Congresswoman Nydia Velasquez on her appointment to the House of Representatives Select Committee on the COVID-19. She'll do an excellent job as always with an added personal understanding of the power of the virus. We are thankful for her recovery. Also, when folks are clapping and cheering at 7 PM, please remember that it's Teacher Appreciation Week and that they, along with everyone who is part of our school system, are doing an incredible job under most difficult circumstances.

Education and closed schools will certainly be discussed during Wednesday's "Check-in."  In addition to the Department of Education, we'll have Councilmember Brad Lander, State Senator Kavanagh, Assemblymembers Carroll & Simon and, Comptroller Scott Stringer. That is the line up "as of now" because this list is still fluid, and like last month , we may have some more folks to " Check-in ."

If you keep scrolling, you'll find a mix of interesting items, resources, and reminders. If you stop scrolling, I hope you enjoy the rest of your Monday and that you stay safe.

Best,
