I know people are focused on tonight’s meeting, but I have a few items to go over before my usual scrolling suggestion beyond my signature. I’ll begin by informing everyone that the memorial service for community luminary Buddy Scotto, scheduled for November 7th, has been postponed. When any new announcements are made, I will let you know.

Last night, like tonight, was a busy night across our community, but I’ll focus on two things very much in the CB6 orbit. 

First, our very own Joe Ann Brown was elected to replace the incumbent as the Warren Street Tenant Association President after a hard-fought campaign. In the spirit of intensifying civic engagement, there was a record turnout. I was honored to administer this election, and it gives me a tremendous amount of hope for our community. I am excited to continue to work with everyone at Warren Street. 

Secondly, our CB6 Parks & Environmental Protection Committee met and received a capital project update from the City’s Parks Department, followed by a presentation from Brooklyn Heat/Cool Smart. A big thank you to everyone who presented and to our Environmental Protection Co-Chair Angelica Ramdhari for handling zoom hosting duties. You can see both presentations here, as well as a recording of the meeting.

Just like our Parks & Environmental meeting, tonight’s Landmarks/Land Use meeting will be recorded and shared on our YouTube page and tomorrow’s newsletter. This is one final reminder that tonight’s meeting begins at 6 PM. Those who want to make public comments or ask questions tonight, please fill out this form. We will get to as many questions as possible. Please keep in mind that close to 500 people have already registered for the event. Please remember that tonight is an informational session, and there will not be a vote on anything related to the pending rezoning. There will be other opportunities to weigh in. The rezoning will not officially start until next year, but, as the purpose of this meeting indicates, this will help us understand that timeline and the timeline before the official review, aka ULURP.
