Last night the Gowanus CAG, as announced in previous newsletters, met via zoom. The EPA let it be known that some changes were made to the dredging sequence, but these changes would not slow the momentum of the substantial clean up that is now underway. The change was due to unanticipated site conditions. It should also be noted that all environmental-monitoring data will be regularly posted to gowanussuperfund.com.

Meanwhile, the EPA Project Manager is setting what he considers to be a very generous timeframe for the smaller stormwater retention tank to be operational by 2028 and the larger tank by 2028 or 2029. The EPA continues to suggest that the City change its land use and acquisition approach concerning the larger tank. 

Shifting from the recent past to the near future, we’ve got a lot going on this evening. One thing canal related, another EPA linked, and another safety-related. One could argue that all of these are interrelated, and they are certainly all important to our community. However, in this case, I am referring to 3 zoom meetings taking place tonight. 

At 6 PM, with a CB6 assist, the Department of City Planning's next pre-certification meeting and presentation will focus on Gowanus infrastructure. At 6:30 PM the Parks Department and & EPA will be giving an update on the Red Hook ball field’s remediation while the 76th Precinct Community Council, chaired by our very own Jerry Armer, will meet on zoom as well. 

As noted before, you can attend all three so that you couldn’t pre-pandemic, but either way, I will share any information I receive on these meetings ASAP. We also have our Landmarks meeting tomorrow, and our December General Board meeting is one week from tonight. 

Of course, I assume everyone else sincerely misses being able to meet in person. When we can, I don’t think I'll ever complain about a projector screen not being down or some other slight inconvenience again.
