I hope this email finds you well as we brace for a snowstorm. The snow forecast has already activated an Alternate Side Parking (ASP) suspension for tomorrow, Wed, Dec 16, and Thursday, Dec 17. Please note that parking meters remain in effect. Moving on from private vehicle storage, I'll highlight some happenings that shouldn't be impacted by snow.

Tonight Assemblymember Carroll will host a virtual panel led by Haskins Global Literacy Hub, focused on literacy and learning in the time of COVID-19. Tomorrow, as noted above, you can keep your car in the same space and get your caf, half-caf, or decaf fix with Assemblymember Simon in another "Java with Jo Anne."

Of course, there are other things listed below, but I'd like to highlight this coming Monday's Economic Waterfront Community Development & Housing Committee meeting. The agenda has only 1 item, and that's the proposed Governors Island South Island rezoning. Governors Island is part of Manhattan's 1st community district, even though it is physically closer to our district. Nonetheless, I am glad we are allowed to find out and comment on this proposal.

As I understand it, the gist of it is to expand the island's uses to allow it to be more of a year-round entity as opposed to just a weekend happening. I've been a few times, and it's lovely. As much as I like what it is now, I can also see why those in charge of the island want to utilize more of it with a mix of uses such as another academic institution (the harbor school is already there), commercial, non-profit, and cultural, hospitality uses.

Anyway, it should be interesting, and I wanted to draw more attention to it as there's some interest in it based on the number of folks already signed up to zoom.
