I hope this email finds everyone well on this 19th day of January that feels like a Monday but is, in fact, a Tuesday. 

Some may have noticed that Friday’s newsletter was sent out a little later than usual. I was planning to include a recommendation of weekend reading of the Gowanus Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), which was expected to be released late on Friday. It wasn’t released owing to a lawsuit, and temporary restraining order, opposing the legality of a virtual Universal Land Use Review Process(ULURP).

I can't speak to the law but we have had a virtual ULURP action during the pandemic. It was for 300 Huntington Street, in the IBZ along the Gowanus Canal. It was unanimously approved, thanks to a motion, by our Landmarks/Land Use Committee and full board in December. I’ll share more information on the rezoning if and when I receive it. However, until then, I continue to recommend reading what’s currently available from DCP, as well as our writings and our comment form. 

With vaccine doses dwindling, I hope we will have more interesting, and indeed, happier news to share sooner than later. For now, I’ll recommend checking out the Items below,  including our support for Ferry Service to Governors Island from Red Hook, staying safe and enjoying the rest of the day.
