The meeting I’m referring to is tomorrow’s Landmarks/Land Use Meeting held over Zoom. There’s only one agenda item, but it’s an application that has garnered a lot of interest as close to 200 people have already registered. The application I’m referring to is seeking approval from us, the Board of Standard and Appeals (BSA), and a 15 story mixed-use building at 145 Wolcott Street in Red Hook. While we’re counting down until tomorrow’s meeting, if you haven’t already you, may want to take note that two weeks from tonight, our March full board meeting will be held beginning at 630 PM. 

Shifting gears, as we know, it’s been a rough year 12 months for folks in almost all walks of life, but small businesses, freelancers, and independent contractors have had it especially rough. More should and could be done, but just a heads up that the Paycheck Protection Program will only accept applications from businesses with fewer than 20 employees. This also applies to independent contractors and freelancers who may consist of only one person. When I heard this, I reached out to Rafael Espinal, the head of the Freelancers Union, and his organization is helping freelancers who have issues applying. If you need such help, please send them an email.
