The busy work week I referred to yesterday carries on as we inch closer to a post-pandemic world. The state has ended most remaining COVID-19 restrictions on capacity, social distancing, and more. However, not everyone is vaccinated against COVID-19, so if you haven’t yet been vaccinated, click here and change that ASAP. 

Tonight, while they are not CB6 meetings, the City’s Parks Department & EPA will hold an update on the Red Hook Ball Fields, and the  Community Education Council(CEC) will vote on District 15 Elementary school rezoning plans. 

Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 16th, we’ll stick with the themes of schools and Red Hook. What I mean is that the Red Hook Initiative will host a meeting about last-mile warehouses while our Youth Services and Education Committee will hear from Superintendent Anita Skop about the elementary school rezoning. 

The following day, Thursday, June 17th, another form of rezoning will be the focus, and that’s of the land use variety and the Gowanus Rezoning. Again, we’ll hear from DCP, and the Land Use committee will then vote on the rezoning. After that, whatever the committee ends up saying will be passed on to the full board for a final resolution and vote at our June 23rd meeting. The process then moves on to the Borough President for his recommendation(s). Once again, here is the draft resolution that the committee is currently circulating. In those previous statements and the currently circulating resolution, you’ll notice an emphasis on the need for NYCHA capital funding. I mention that not just because it’s inherently important but because today I was able to join, in person at the Gowanus Community Center, NYCHA tenant leaders, GNCJ, Councilmembers Lander & Levin in emphasizing the importance of this funding and reaffirming that NYCHA residents shouldn’t have to settle for subpar living conditions under any circumstances.
