I’ll start by urging everyone to get vaccinated against Covid-19 ASAP. As noted yesterday, today is the last day for public school students between the ages of 12 and 17 to be fully vaccinated in time for the first day of school.

I’ll start by urging everyone to get vaccinated against Covid-19 ASAP.  As noted yesterday, today is the last day for public school students between the ages of 12 and 17 to be fully vaccinated in time for the first day of school. 

Moving to a topic, I haven’t brought it up as much lately, the Gowanus rezoning.  Regular readers and dedicated CB6 followers will recall we voted to conditionally approve the rezoning back in June. 

In our board discussions, public statements, communications to the city, and final vote to conditionally approve the Gowanus rezoning, we made clear that we wanted a racial impact study.  The purpose of the study is to make sure the Rezoning would increase neighborhood diversity, and we are glad to see that one has now been done. The study shows Gowanus would become MORE diverse after the rezoning.  

The studies findings reinforce why, as part of those conditions, we also asked that when it came to the policy of “Community preference” for affordable housing, we demanded that particular preference be given to residents of public housing and considering the demographics of our district (157K Median Household Income) contrasted with neighboring districts that the preference is expanded to include residents of Community District 7, 8 and 9 in addition to 2 and 6.
