I hope this email finds you well as we head into the weekend—a weekend following a week that included our penultimate full board meeting of 2021.

If you missed the full board or want to relive it, it’s up on YouTube. A busy meeting had our current slate of CB6 Board officers elected for another one-year term. So congratulations to our Chair Peter Fleming, 1st Vice-Chair Eric McClure, 2nd Vice-Chair Jerry Armer, Treasurer Tom Miskel, and Secretary Karen Broughton. The meeting also resulted in the approval of our FY 2023 budget recommendations, 2 liquor licenses, a landmark item, and changes to traffic patterns on Columbia Street. Another approval that was a topic during our meeting had taken place earlier that day when the City Council's Subcommittees on Zoning and Franchises and Land Use voted to approve an amended Gowanus Rezoning, which will now head to a vote by the entire City Council on November 23rd.

As noted during the meeting, what the City Council voted on was, in large measure, aligned with our conditions for support of the rezoning and the similar conditions set forth by the Gowanus Neighborhood Coalition for justice. This is especially true regarding the 200 Million in new funding to repair apartments in NYCHA properties at Gowanus and Wyckoff and hundreds of millions for flood reduction & stormwater infrastructure. This includes $174m for the 4th Ave sewer and community oversight of the rezoning. There’s more detailed coverage of the rezoning that you can find from NY1, City Limits, The Brooklyn Paper, Patch, and others.

On that note, I’ll stop and suggest you scroll down for some information and ideas for the weekend, the coming week, and beyond. Even if you don’t read any further, thanks for reading this far; stay safe, and have a good weekend.

Best,
Mike Racioppo, District Manager
