I hope this email finds you well on this Tuesday, the 18th day of January. Before suggesting you scroll down, I’d like to draw your attention to items that run the gamut of government. What I mean is that the items I’m referring to involve Federal, State, and City government with macro and micro implications.

First, Congresswoman Nydia Velasquez announced that she’s tested positive with a breakthrough Covid-19 infection. We, of course, hope the Congresswoman experiences the most minimal symptoms, recovers quickly and completely. That is more likely to occur since the Congresswoman received three vaccine doses. As her statement read, she encourages everyone to get vaccinated and boosted.

Staying at the federal level, you may now order free Covid-19 tests from the United States Postal Service at COVIDtests.gov. The site “officially” launches tomorrow, Wednesday, January 19th, but you can order four free tests per household now with the expectation that they will be received later this month.

Second, on the state level Governor Hochul unveiled her budget proposal for FY 2023. I haven’t gone through it any detailed way, but you can read it all right here. The headlines I’ve seen highlight increased funding for education, healthcare, transportation along with property tax relief for homeowners coming to a total of 216.3 Billion. The state budget has an April 1st deadline and isn’t official until the New York Senate and Assembly approve it.

Sticking with the State legislative process, some may recall that during last week's meeting, I mentioned that the legislature voted to approve government bodies, such as community boards, being allowed to meet remotely until the Covid-19 emergency is over. Like the budget, this change required the approval of the legislature and governor. So I'm happy to report that Governor Hochul signed the bill (S7623-A /A08591) and Community Boards can meet remotely for the foreseeable future. 

So it’s fitting to remind you that CB6 has two such committee meetings next week. The first is the Permits & Licenses Committee, which meets Monday, January 24th, and the second will be the Landmarks/Land Use Committee which meets on Thursday, January 27th. Both Meetings start at 6:30 pm.
