I hope this email finds you well as you begin a week with warmth and Wednesday's board meeting about forty-eight hours from now. I have three items I’ll go through as quickly as I can.

First, the Covid-19 pandemic entered a new chapter in New York City today as mandates requiring masks in public schools and proof of vaccination for various activities were lifted. However, masks are still required in hospitals, healthcare settings, and public transportation. So, hopefully, the infection rate and risk stay low, and any concerns of new variants and that this is too early end up being misplaced. 

Secondly, on the very border of our district, the 57-year-old war memorial at Bartel-Pritchard Square was hit by a driver in the early hours of Sunday. The driver caused a fire and destroyed the memorial. There were relatively minor injuries, but this only reinforces our continuing support for safety measures on our streets.

Third, a reminder that the FDNY recommends checking your smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries as we approach daylight savings time this coming Sunday, March 13th. These smoke detectors don’t have anything to do with daylight savings directly. Still, the timing of “Springing” ahead and “Falling behind” are good timelines to follow when ensuring these safety devices have power if necessary.
