Policy, Participating, Parades

I hope this email finds you well after a week that included a committee meeting with crashcount.nyc and the Friends of Fort Defiance, and ahead of a weekend that kicks off early voting in this year's general election.

A general election in which everyone's ballot will include Governor, Attorney General, Comptroller, and five possible City Charter changes. You'll also be able to vote for Congress, State Senate, State Assembly, and judges. If that piques your interest, go to our elections page, where, depending on your address, you'll find a sample ballot that tells you who, what, when, and where to vote.

The winners of those elections will have more than the advisory role I'm more familiar with in public policy matters. Election winners like Comptroller Levine and Borough President Reynoso focused on transportation policy in a recent letter to DOT, supporting and citing CB6 among the boards that have called for lowering speed limits under Sammy's Law and daylighting at street corners. You can see what both would mean for your block here. Another transportation policy is the proposed Bergen and Dean bike boulevard, which runs through four community boards and six council districts. If you're interested, DOT will hold two virtual workshops on Tuesday, November 10th, and Thursday, November 12th, both at 6:30 PM. You can register here, and what we know so far is here (& in the app!).

Housing policy is another area where policy election winners will have a say. For example, Block by Block, Mayor Mamdani's housing plan for 120 city-owned sites, or HPD's Fair Housing Growth Strategy, which former CB6 Land Use expert Rebecca Kobert helped develop and lays out a 2030 housing target for every district, including good ol CB6.

Housing and transportation have long been among our top concerns. If you'd like to tell us what yours are, take our District Needs Survey.

While not a traditional matter of public policy, thank you to everyone who volunteered to test the Android version of the apps, as we've more than tripled the required amount. So someday soon iPhone and Android alike will be able to download BKCB6, BKCB, or CBNYC.

Another non-policy policy is to stop typing here, recommend reading the rest, and wish you the best.
